New Compressor for Towns County Firefighters
With the assistance of the Towns County Fire Corps, a new Bauer Open Vertical Air Compressor System along with additional air storage cylinders was purchased in April of 2010. The old compressor unit was deemed to be beyond repair by the Department's maintenance contractor, Breathing Air Systems of Chattanooga, TN.
Breathing air compressors must meet ridged OSHA and NFPA construction standards, are equipped with high tech filtration systems and develop 5,000 PSI at 8.4 cubic feet per minute. As you can imagine, the cost of these units far exceeds the homeowner’s version.
After receiving multiple quotes, the Department awarded the purchase contract to the lowest responsive bidder for the sum of $11,499.00, which was paid by the Towns County Fire Corps. The purchase was made possible through the use of proceeds from the Fire in the Mountains Chili Cook Off and various other fund-raising events sponsored by the Fire Corps.
