The Fire In the Mountains Chili Cook-off was held on Memorial Day Saturday, May 29, 2010 at the square in Hiawassee--the only beautifully sunny day in a week of pop-up thunderstorms.
The 5K Race, Walk, or Stoll your baby had 49 participants, plus 2 moms with babies in strollers. Jeanne Ledford counted them off at 9 a.m. going from the square on Hwy. 76 to the Georgia Mountain Fairgrounds and back to the square. Below are the winners.
At the Chili Cook-off several thousand people participated in tasting chili, admiring the creative booths, a silent auction, a country store, eating ice cream and hot dogs, and buying tickets for a Browning BL-22 rifle. Winner of the rifle was Thorval Burmood of Hiawassee.
Many thanks to the SPONSORS.
It was a great day and all proceeds from the 5K and the Chili Cook-off will go for equipment for the Towns County Fire Rescue Department.
