Fire in the Mountains 2009
On Saturday, May 30, 2009 the Fire in the Mountains took place on the square and was a huge success. All proceeds from the event, which was sponsored by the Towns County Fire Corp, goes to the Towns County Fire Department.
There was great chili, great crowds, and great entertainment by the "Trees Leaves" from Nashville, TN. These two guys, that can make more music than you can believe, both local boys originally - Wyatt Espalin, was from Hiawassee, and Cody Ferguson, from Warne, NC.
We had 28 different chili booths so you had a grand choice of taste. We had great judges that had to taste the 28 'pots' and loved every minute of it!! The chili teams were both local and out of town/state - what a selection, from vegetarian to "Buffalo".
The judges for our event were local folks that had an 'expertise' in taste, ranging from spiritual to connoisseurs !
The dunk tank was a big hit - we had major town celebrities - Fire Chief, Chief of Police, Assistant Fire Chief, and many more. We hope, next year, to entice our County Commissioner and our County Sheriff to offer their services to this fun filled day. What do you say Bill and Chris? Help raise money for our Fire Dept. with a fun filled day!!
We had fire-safety demonstrations, and a whole lot of family fun in the heart of the North Georgia Mountains.
If you missed it this year, check back next year because it will be an annual event from here on!! It's only going to get better !!!!!!!!!!
